Remixes of the band Time of Orchids:::
Scolex Throne remix:::
I have been remixing one track per each
Time of Orchids release since their first album. Give a listen to my remix of "Scolex Throne: Shame of Heaven"
from their debut album "Melonwhisper". My remix is called "Feel the Wind from Behind the Scolex Throne"
in reference to a weird line in the Nintendo game "Dragon Warrior" my friend had.
All of the Letters Returned remix:::
Chuck of Orchids had an early side-project called Panty Boys,
and from the Boys' only release "Maiden Voyage" I remixed
All of the Letters Returned. The title of this remix
is "Cecil's Letter Opener".
Pleasure Indeed remix:::
Off the Orchids' second album "Much ToO Much Fun," I
remixed the song "Pleasure Indeed," and titled it
"Feather Indeed! scutopus Has No Feathers!" [spoken with indignation].
Up until and including "Feather Indeed", I only had access to the finished album version of an Orchids song, and so created each remix exclusively from pieces of the finished song. [The exception is "cecil's letter opener", where I added drums to the b-section.]
Voice remix:::
Orchids released their 45-minute ep
"Early as Seen in Pace", and I was overjoyed to learn that I could have access to the individual tracks and
sounds of the song "Voice". I created a three-part remix with intro titled "Prohibited Diagonal Perambulation", referencing the fact that, within the
grid of a city's streets, one must walk in a grid-like fashion; no diagonal meandering is allowed. The three parts together rework the pieces of
"Voice" completely, and the tension of the original is augmented. The three parts use a few musical techniques to create tension, including atonal organ
melody [Part 1], breakbeat [Part 2], and slow drone with an occasionally disrupted pulse beat [Part 3].
The three parts total a little under 18 minutes and are meant to be listened to all in one sitting from beginning to end.

Remixes from Sarcast While:::
I was sitting on two remixes from sarcast while in the hopes that I
could get a proper CD release of the whole lot of Orchids remixes and have these recent ones as incentive. But with the possibility of a proper CD release
slim and my impatient urge to let people hear these pieces, they are here for your enjoyment. The Sarcast While remix,
Filled with Sand and Seashells, is long and texturally-focused (an older cousin of the Infidel?/Castro!
remix below) and the "Swarm of Hope" remix, "Warm of Pope," has some very pretty drones, among other things.
Remix of Pattern is Movement's "People and Touch"
Pattern is Movement
allowed me to vaporize their track "People and Touch." The result is a remix named And People Touch Vapor. Many
thanks and good hello to Chris and all the PiM folks.
p.s. They have a flash song player on their website with which one may preview (pre-listen?) to
quite a bit of their music.
Remixes of Jarrod Fowler:::
Remix of "Sixty-Fourth":::
Purple Tumble is my second remix of Jarrod Fowler, and derives from
the track "Sixty-Fourth" from his release On Pulse, Repetition, Percussion and Layers.
Like my Fowler remix below, it is noisy, but draws out some tone from the bombast.
Remix of "Compilation":::
This remix is of a piece by Jarrod Fowler. His track "compilation" is from his
On Botanic and Rhythmic Structures release. My short, rather punishing remix is called
Aggrogate and is intentionally misspelled for reasons I think are clever.
Remixes of Forbes Graham's solo trumpet:::
Forbes Graham released a
3" cd-r of three solo trumpet improvisations. He allowed me to remix each piece, and so I limited myself to each track as the sole source
material for each respective remix.
-Greetings Lost in Gusts is a remix of "We Pray for Peace".
-Resolute Follicle Meadow is a remix of "The
Absolute Terror Field".
-Orbs, Ma'am is a remix of "A Supplication to Immortal Beings".
Two remixes of Genghis Tron's song "Arms":::
Genghis Tron let me remix their
song "Arms" off their album "Cloak of Love". They were kind enough to give me access to the source material for the song, and I went to town. Two
remixes materialized, one of which is a hard techno track [Stub] reminiscent of my older works, and the other is a pretty, shimmery drone [Prosthesis]
with vocals on it by my friend Orm Lord.

A remix of Infidel?/Castro!'s track "Involuntary Physical Response":::
This track is entitled
Intentionally Abyssal Remix and is made up of manipulated pieces of Infidel?/Castro!'s track "Involuntary
Physical Response". The track is about 10 minutes long (MP3 about 10MB in size) and is either one of the most creepy or most boring tracks I've
done, depending on your perspective. All distortions are intentional. I really like the textures and overtones in this remix. Thanks to George and Colin
for letting me remix them.
Remix of WIPthrash's Betong ep:::
I saw a call for drum n' bass remixes up on a messageboard recently.
I answered the call, and WIPthrash responded. I received instructions and
went to work. I sound-designed the necessities for a drum n' bass track from the original betong ep, and gave the track the structure of an old-school
scutopus beat workout. Seborrhoea is the result, and mighty fun, too!
Remix of "Rrrrrrright" by Deerhoof:::
Deerhoof are allowing people to
remix their song "Rrrrrrright" from their album "Runners Four". They post
each and every submission on the remix page for folks to download as they are able (I'm sure there are many submissions!). Mine is not up there yet,
so here is Rapidemix. It is fun and simple, with a twist.
Submission to an online Radiohead remix contest:::
The Loophole
is where an official Radiohead remix contest took place, fall 2003. Radiohead made availible some samples for the contest, and remixers went to work.
Then, for three or four months, 20 remixes each month were selected to be presented for download. My track SAMO
was selected to be one of the 20 on the site for September, 2003, and was downloaded 3667 times during the month.
